Recycle Info

Atlanta Computer (ACL) is committed to the care and quality of our environment. We work with companies large and small, as well as with the general public, to assist in the recycling of useable and non-useable computer-related and telecommunications equipment.

Improper disposal of certain materials found in common computer components can be extremely harmful to the environment. Although illegal, the export of electronic waste to foreign countries where their toxic components are polluting poor communities has become a common practice among many large corporations. We strive to work with only the best  refiners that follow the "no landfill policy".

Services

Recycling

At ACL, we believe the most successful form of recycling is reuse. achieving maximum reuse is a fundamental objective of our efforts. We have made it our business to develop an extensive knowledge of second use technology equipment markets and we combine this with our flexible recovery process. Organizations that benefit from our disposal service do so with the knowledge that their surplus equipment continues to be of use and does not enter the waste chain prematurely or unnecessarily.

Remarketing

Along with the recycling and reuse of electronic components, ACL offers a great remarketing program for equipment that still has some remaining useful life. This program offers customers a more efficient and cost-effective method of disposing of unwanted or obsolete technology. ACL will purchase the following types of equipment (pending review of condition, makes, models and date codes) for remarketing:

  • Pentium-4 level or higher computer systems and servers
  • Telecommunications equipment and telecom components
  • Networking equipment including switches, routers and hubs
  • Industrial, commercial and medical electronic and test equipment

Secure Data Removal

One of the greatest concerns companies have when disposing of their old computer equipment is the removal of the personal and proprietary data, as well as licensed software contained on them. Disposing of computer storage devices, (hard drives, tapes, cd's, etc) without ensuring proper data removal presents huge business risks. Destruction of drives, tapes, and other magnetic media is by far the safest means of disposal and the only method that guarantees that your data cannot be recovered.

ACL offers various levels of secure data removal, up to and including Total Physical Destruction. Total device destruction is required for compliance with:

  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
  • Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)
  • Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act

The following table describes secure data removal options offered by ACL.

Data Removal Security Levels

Level

Operating System - FDISK and format hard drive.
Level 1
Third-Party Disk Utilities - Deletes hard drive data. Data recovery impossible through the operating system alone. Then FDISK and reformat drive.
Level 2
DOD 5220.22-M standard Compliant -  1's and 0's randomly written across every track and sector seven times. Meets Department of Defense security requirements.

Level 3

Total Hard Drive Destruction - Drive housing and platter are physically crushed.
Level 4
Drive Destruction

Sales

ACL  has operated as a buyer/seller in the computer wholesale industry since 1994. We sell computer, networking, and telecommunications related equipment and peripherals. Our products consist of new, used and refurbished equipment purchased from companies that are scaling back or offering close-outs, as well as from manufacturers who have overstocked, received returns, or are making model changes. Because of the way we purchase equipment, and the speed at which it moves, listing our inventory here is not feasible. We go through off-lease purchases and overage buy-outs very quickly. A majority of the complete systems go back out to our regular customers and dealers. The balance is disassembled for parts sales.

As people are more cost-conscious today, used computer parts and equipment sell very quickly. Don't hesitate to contact us if you need something not listed. If we don't have it, we may be able to locate it for you.
